Virginia Tech Alumni
Association
Hello Hokie Alumni and Hokie Friends!
Welcome to the President’s Corner.
The Middle Tennessee Chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni has one of its own in Iraq, Capt. MB Sherkey. He and his unit is part of the 101st Airborne, they were deployed, and we, as his Chapter, wanted to help by donating much needed supplies to him and his men and women protecting our freedom. This campaign has been known as “Hokies for the 101st Airborne”. We collected items such as toothpaste, soap, baby wipes, shampoo, razors, deodorant, foot spray, assorted foods, mouth wash, books, sanitary waterless soaps, powdered cool-aid, etc. and packaged 42 boxes to MB for him to distribute throughout his unit of 260 plus troops. See Pictures. We also had “Hokies for the 101st Airborne” buttons made up that will be given to each of MB’s troops to let them know we were thinking of them! Thank you all for the items and time to help our Chapter support our troops!
Our chapter continues to be very active and supportive in the community. On Sunday, May 4th, 2003 at 1:00 P.M. the Middle Tennessee Chapter will donate $500 to the care and support of a wild turkey residing in the Nashville Zoo at Grassmere. Please come and join our Chapter in support of its own Nashville HokieBird. The zoo is located at 3777 Nolensville Road in Nashville. The zoo phone number is 833-1534. Click for detail & directions.
